Harghita Mădărași is the most popular ski resort in Transylvania at present. This trekking and holiday spot is located at about 30 km’s from the land. There are approximately 4.5kms long ski tracks at the altitude of 1500-1760m above sea level.
As there are many rivers in the country the region is also suitable for practicing watersports. There is a local company established in the town producing different kind of water-equipment(kayak, canoe, boats), organising watertours in the whole country. The surrounding rivers and lakes (in the 5-20km range) are also considered a good place for Fishing. Odorheiu Secuiesc is also ideal for practicing extreme sports like Paragliding and Rock climbing. There is a local paragliding-club (Bluesky) with members practicing this sport for more than 10 years. There are also some good possibilities for practicing Horseriding (15-50km range from Odorhei).
The sorroundings is famous for its natural givings (mountains, alps, lakes, fountains of mineral water, ski and trekking resorts and last but not least its thermal and medical spas - see list of diseases curable in the county), folklore (architecture, pottery, traditional and unique szekler gates, furniture, weaving, sewing and bone- lace making furthermore painted eggs and tinder processing), multiculturalism (hungarian szeklers, romanians, saxons, csángós etc.) and hospitality.
A number of folklore events take place every year in Harghita. Just to mention a few, the Pottery Fair in Arcsio, the Csángó festival, the Day of Thousand Szekler Girls, the carnival burial festival, the Narcissus Festival at Vlăhița and the gypsy primates gathering in Sânsimion.
